Permission to be Imperfect

This time I wanted to shake things up a little to loosen my drawing style.  To do this, I assigned myself to draw fast and without too much worry for proportions. I pulled out 3 pages of water-color paper accepting they would be trashed (no guilt!).

Here is the reference photo

And this is for anyone who says they can’t draw!!

Here is my first fast and free attempt….
exp3What’s with the foot?  And why am I trying to sign my name?  Dunno…

Second attempt. Foot and legs getting better… the head and neck are huge and the features look like hair, but it’s better in some way.

Third attempt. I like how I paid attention to the shape of the head and the curve of the neck.  I also like that I am trying to use line work to mark out the shadows.

So after that warmup, I started the final piece.  I really found it easier to draw being warmed up and already having studied the image.  I didn’t seem to worry as much about adding an extra squiggle or line where you might not expect it.  I think this adds some uniqueness.

final color added

Notice the reflection on the feet and legs in the water.  First time I have ever tried this and it seems to work!
