The idea here was to create a gift for a friend… I thought about whether I could mix the colors of a statue and put it against a color pour blue sky

Simple color pour – this is actually exterior paint.

Watercolor concept sketch…. no idea what is going on here but took 10 min. Trying to be an artist and do the right thing 🙂

Underpainting….

half-way done.

Critique: Challenges with the face and neck, plus I got lazy on the wing. The sleeve around the shoulder and arm are the best parts! – figures, I spent the most time there.
What I like: The green against the blue sky really pops. I like how one coating of gold on the sword adds the extra element given the nice composition of where the blade crosses his forehead. I like that I was able to somehow mix a realistic copper patina color.
